Marshall Public Library and the Gaslight Art Colony will host a Grand Unveiling and Dedication Ceremony for three new stained-glass windows celebrating America’s 250th anniversary on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Gaslight Art Colony, 516 Archer Avenue, Marshall.

The event, titled “From Sea to Shining Sea,” will celebrate the completion of a unique piece of
public art created by members of the Gaslight Art Colony. The stained-glass windows were designed to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary while honoring
Marshall’s history, heritage, and vibrant arts community.

“Public art tells the story of a community. Today, we add another chapter to Marshall’s story,” said Marshall Public Library Director
Alyson Thompson. “These windows are more than beautiful works of art. They
reflect our appreciation for history, our commitment to preserving our
heritage, and our belief that the arts enrich our community for generations to
come.”

The project was made possible through a collaboration between Marshall Public Library, the Gaslight Art Colony, community partners, artists, craftsmen, and supporters. Artwork was supported by the Illinois Arts Council’s America’s 250th Public Art Grant celebrating Illinois in 2026.

The ceremony will recognize the many individuals and organizations who helped bring the project to life, including representatives of the Illinois Arts Council, Marshall Historic Preservation Commission, and Quality Lime Company, as well as local, state, and federal elected officials.

The artists of the Gaslight Art Colony who contributed to the project include Jo Rich-Vadas, Anne Hintz, Todd Stokes, Debbie Montgomery, Jim Nestleroad, Vickie Meehan, Carolyn Lowry and Jack Davidson.

The dedication will include remarks recognizing the collaborative effort behind the artwork, a commemorative group photograph, and the official unveiling of the windows. Following the unveiling, guests are invited to enjoy refreshments, visit with one another, and view the artwork up close.

“This project is a wonderful example of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared vision,” Thompson said. “Generous supporters, talented artists, skilled craftsmen, volunteers, and community leaders all played a part. These windows will become part of Marshall’s story for generations to come.”
