The rediscovery of the Old York Trail, an ancient path running from the Wabash River at York to the Embarras River near Charleston, will be presented by Carolyn Stephens, Robert Maxwell, and Barbara Ross at the library on Thursday, September 18, at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, September 19, at 2:00 p.m. This historical and archaeological project documents early settlement in Crawford, Clark, and Coles Counties. A computerized map and PowerPoint will highlight land grants, settlements, inns, schools, cemeteries, and the disputed 1830 Lincoln route.
The York Trail, once a bison, Native, and pioneer road, later guided wagons and stagecoaches to York, a thriving Wabash River port. Guests are invited to share stories and photographs.
