The City of Marshall wishes to announce the City has been successful in securing grant funding to create a new comprehensive plan to lead the City into the future and would like YOUR input. They have provided an online survey for citizens to fill out and express their thoughts about the future of our community.  Click here to complete the survey.

     Marshall was one of 55 local governments that received funding from the “IKE” Disaster Recovery Planning Program (IKE-PLP) to assist in developing a long-term comprehensive plan for the City.  

        The funding will allow the City to engage in comprehensive planning at the local level. The City will lead efforts to make assessments, identify trends, and formulate strategies in the areas of infrastructure, economic development, parks/recreation, natural resources, “Green” initiatives, future land use/housing, public facilities/services, public safety/hazards, education, cultural/historic resources and community/regional initiatives.

       The City Council has formally appointed a Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee that is charged with overseeing the entire year-long process.

We hope our patrons have not been inconvenienced while the library staff has been making the change to our new automation system, POLARIS. Considering the magnitude of the task, it’s pretty amazing that there have been few problems. Just imagine getting 427 libraries in more than half of the state to be connected so 250,000 people can share 9.5 million items under one set of rules! Many people have been working very hard to make it happen seamlessly, including our library staff. The staff trained for one day in our library, and the librarians attended training sessions in Champaign. Now the staff is gradually getting more comfortable with the new system. Changes and improvements continue to happen daily.

Here are two things we need for you to do: If you use the library catalog from home or your laptop, it is important that you bookmark the new link (mshp.illshareit.com) for the catalog because the old site no longer works. Also, please let us know if you are willing to receive your notices by email or text message.

The Marshall Public Library Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 PM in the library’s Dale McConchie Meeting Room. Join us and meet others who oenjoy reading as much as you do.  Participants enjoy casual discussion on a different book each month. A variety of genres and authors will be read. Light refreshments are provided courtesy of Old National Bank.
