Library Services for Senior Citizens and Disabled
Marshall Public Library Serves those with Disabilities
March is Disability Awareness Month, but Marshall Public Library serves people with disabilities and limited library access all year long. After all, the library is for everyone!
The library strives to serve those who enjoy reading and using library materials but because of illness or disability might not be able to come to the library to make their selections.
Residents at Burnsides Community Health Care Center, Robert Flowers Village, and Burnhaven receive free delivery of library materials every two weeks by request. Other homebound residents are eligible for this service as well. Either a specific or a general selection of materials may be delivered to the home of any person who is confined either temporarily or long-term. The library staff also makes story time visits to local day care providers, so that our youngest patrons may enjoy library services.People with limited vision can receive special assistance at the library. A wide variety of large print books is available, as well as books on cassette tape and compact disc. For those who are interested in audio materials but find it difficult to manipulate audio equipment, Mid-Illinois Talking Books provides many different types of assistive equipment which allows a person to listen to recordings. This free service includes the use of the equipment plus regular free delivery of a variety of recordings. The library will gladly provide information regarding these services.
Marshall Lions Club generously donated two magnifier readers for use by the public either in the library or in one’s home. The magnifiers are easy to use and can enlarge any type of material including books, magazines, recipes, and maps. Library patrons may borrow this equipment at no cost.
The library also has a TTY machine, which enables the hearing impaired to contact the library with text messaging. This equipment may also be used by the public to make out-going calls from the library.
Your library provides all of these services for free. Just call Marshall Public Library for more information or to arrange for services.
