Be a Part of the BIG READ in March!
We want you to be part of The BIG READ! Interesting programs, book discussions, and displays are taking place at the library for both adults and children revolving around this year’s selected book, My Antonia. Stop by the library for a free copy of the book to read and share!  

A book discussion led by head librarian Alissa Tipton will take place Thursday evening, March 11th at 6:30 PM and on Wednesday, March 17th, at 10:30 AM. Then on Thursday, March 18th at 6:30 PM, Mrs. Susan Maurer will present a fascinating program on pioneer foods.  Children will enjoy a pioneer craft and story on Saturday morning, March 20th at 10:30 AM.  Don’t miss a beautiful and interesting pioneer living display by Marshall’s Antique Study Club, which is in the display cases now through the end of the month.  There is even a word search, crossword puzzle and trivia quiz about the novel that will earn you a small prize.   Join the fun!  

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.  Marshall Public Library’s Big Read activities are part of the Vigo County Public Library Big Read. 
 
Saturday Kids Craft Starts in January
We invite children of all ages to the library for a monthly craft program beginning Saturday, January 16th.  Drop in the library for a simple craft and a story between 10:30 and 11:30 AM on the third Saturday of each month.  Saturday Kids Craft is a free program.  Registration is not necessary.  For more information, please call the library at 217/826-2535..
 
Free Computer Classes - see the current schedule
We have scheduled free computer classes for the first quarter of 2010. The following classes will be offered:

"Introduction to Computers" –Thursday, January 14, 6:00-7:30 PM
Items covered in this class include identification of basic computer components, correct procedure in starting up and closing down your PC, how to start programs using the Start menu and icons, mouse functions, etc. **"Introduction to Computers I" is a pre-requisite for all other classes.

Pre-School Family Literacy Nights Return
Monthly Family Literacy Nights are planned for pre-schoolers ages 3, 4, and 5 years and a parent at Marshall Public Library this winter and spring.  At each thirty minute session the children listen to stories, learn finger plays, do interactive projects with a parent, and more.  The parents learn valuable information about effective ways to read to children and provide a reading environment at home.  Children receive a free book to take home at each session and an additional book if they complete a monthly reading log.
